  1. Any birthmark, mole, or coloured spot on the
  2. skin, especially the kind called a `port-wine
  3. mark'. This is a maroon-coloured area of the
  4. skin, consisting of a mass of small blood
  5. vessels. A naevus of moderate size is
  6. harmless, and such marks are usually
  7. disguised cosmetically unless they are
  8. extremely disfiguring, when they can
  9. sometimes be treated by cutting out, by
  10. burning with an electric needle, by freezing
  11. with carbon dioxide snow, or by argon laser
  12. treatment.
  13.
